In the past few months, we’ve noticed a rise in SASSA beneficiaries joining private banks as their payment method to collect grants.
It comes as no surprise as it seems SASSA will discontinue the use of the current gold card due to issues faced in the past.
We’ve asked our friend to change their current SASSA Child Grant payment method to another bank at the branch so that we can capture the process.
So here’s how it works.
Starting the Process at the SASSA Branch
Most people will obviously start here, to get more information on what’s needed to change their grant payment method from the SASSA gold card to another bank.
Here’s how the process is summarized:
- Visit the SASSA branch and get the payment method switched to bank form (Sassa Annexure C).
- Take the form to your preferred bank to complete and get stamped.
- Take the bank-completed form back to the SASSA branch to finalize the change request.
- When you’re done, the next payment will be paid into your new banking account information.
Starting the Process at the Bank
This is the less tedious and quicker process to update your grant payment method to a personal banking account.
- Go to the bank and inform the consultant you want to switch your grant payments to their account.
- They’re going to give you a letter (Proof of banking) that you can take to the SASSA branch to complete the switch.
- The SASSA consultant should be able to complete the switch with the letter from the bank without the need for the back and forth.
- And that’s it, you’ll get the next grant payments into your personal bank account.
For both processes, at the branch, you’ll need to use their biometric fingerprint to confirm the change request.
