The SASSA Child Support Grant is paid on a fixed monthly schedule confirmed by National Treasury for the full 2026/2027 financial year. Unlike the SRD grant which varies month to month, your Child Support Grant payment date is predictable and consistent.
The general rule is: children's grants are paid on the 4th of each month, or the next working day if the 4th falls on a weekend or public holiday. Payments are never made on a Monday, the 1st of the month, or the day after a public holiday.

July 2026 note: Children's grants are paid on Monday 6 July — not the 4th — because 4 and 5 July fall on a weekend. SASSA does not process payments on weekends, so the date moves to the next working day.
December 2026 note: December payments are moved to 3 December to avoid the busy festive period and ensure beneficiaries have access to funds before the school holidays begin.
Why Are April and May Different?
You may notice April (8th) and May (7th) are later than the standard 4th of the month pattern. SASSA applies the following rules when setting payment dates:
- Payments cannot fall on the 1st of the month
- Payments cannot fall on a Monday
- Payments cannot fall the day after a public holiday
- Payments cannot fall on a weekend
In April 2026, Family Day (7 April) is a public holiday, so children's grants were moved to 8 April. In May 2026, the 4th falls on a Monday, pushing the date to Thursday 7 May.
From June 2026 onwards, most months return to the 4th or the nearest working day.
What Time Will the Money Be in My Account?
SASSA processes payments overnight before the confirmed payment date. For most beneficiaries, funds are available from early morning on your payment date — often before 8am.
The exact time depends on your bank:
- Capitec, TymeBank, and Postbank — typically available from 06:00 on payment day
- ABSA, Standard Bank, FNB, Nedbank — usually by 08:00–09:00
- Retail collection (Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer, Checkers, USave) — available from store opening on payment day
There is no need to rush to the ATM or store at midnight. The money will still be there later in the day — and SASSA specifically asks beneficiaries not to withdraw all funds at once for safety reasons.
What If My Payment Doesn't Arrive on the Confirmed Date?
If your grant has not reflected by end of business on your payment date, check the following before contacting SASSA:
1. Confirm your status is approved. Log in at srd.sassa.gov.za — wait, that is for the SRD grant. For the Child Support Grant, check your status by calling 0800 60 10 11 or visiting your nearest SASSA office. The CSG does not currently have an online status checker portal like the SRD grant.
2. Check your banking details are correct. Your bank account must be active and registered in your name. If you recently changed banks, your first payment may still go to the old account. See our guide on changing your SASSA payment method.
3. Allow 2–3 working days. Banks process deposits in batches. In rare cases, funds reflect up to 2 working days after the SASSA payment date, especially with smaller banks or at month end.
4. Check for a life certificate requirement. If SASSA has flagged your account for an annual life certificate review and you have not completed it, your payment may be held. Contact SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 to check.
5. Check for a grant review. SASSA periodically reviews grants. If you have not responded to a review notice, your payment may be suspended. Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID to resolve this.
SASSA Gold Card — Important Deadline: August 2026
If you are still receiving your Child Support Grant on a SASSA Gold Card, you must switch to the new Postbank Black Card before 31 August 2026. Postbank is phasing out Gold Cards and they will stop working after that date.
To switch, visit your nearest SASSA office or Postbank branch with your South African ID. The switch is free. If you miss the deadline, your payment will still be processed but you will not be able to access it until you switch cards.
How the Child Support Grant Payment System Works
Understanding the payment system helps you know what to expect:
Staggered payment days. SASSA pays different grant types on different days to reduce congestion. The order is always: Older Persons Grant first, then Disability Grant, then Children's grants (which includes the Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, and Grant-in-Aid).
Your payment does not expire. Money paid to your bank account stays there until you withdraw it. There is no deadline to collect. For retail collection (pay points), funds typically stay available for the current month.
You receive payment for each qualifying child. If you are the primary caregiver for three children, you receive R580 × 3 = R1,740 in a single payment on the children's grant date. The full amount for all children is paid in one transaction.

Is the Child Support Grant paid on the same day every month? Not always the exact same date, but always in the first week of the month — usually the 4th, adjusted for weekends and public holidays. The full 2026/2027 schedule is confirmed in the table above.

What happens to my payment if I am in hospital on payment day? If you are unable to collect, you can arrange for a procurator to collect on your behalf. This must be arranged in advance at your SASSA office — bring a letter of authority and your ID. Your funds will remain available until you or your procurator collect them.
I missed collecting for three months — will I lose my grant? Yes. The Child Support Grant lapses automatically if you do not collect it for three consecutive months.
