Whether you want to confirm your SRD R370 grant is approved or check your payment balance and date for the current month, this guide covers all the methods available in 2026.
What "Status" and "Balance" Mean for SRD Grants
Unlike a traditional bank account, your SRD grant does not have a standing balance you can view at any time. Instead, your monthly status tells you:
- Whether you have been approved, declined, or are still pending for the current month
- Your assigned payment date (if approved)
- The amount — which is R370 for all approved applications in 2026
- Any action required (such as ID verification or a reapplication notice)
The SRD grant amount is fixed at R370 per month for the 2026/2027 financial year, confirmed in the 2026 National Budget. Any claim that the grant has increased is false — see our post debunking the R700 SRD increase rumour.
For a full explanation of every status message that can appear, see our complete SRD statuses explained guide.
How to Check Your SRD Status Online
What you need:
- Your 13-digit South African ID number
- The cellphone number registered on your SRD application
If you no longer have access to your registered number, you will need to update your SRD cellphone number before you can check your status online.
Steps:
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za
- Click Status Check
- Enter your ID number and registered cellphone number
- Click Submit
- Your current monthly status and payment date (if approved) will appear on screen
Check via WhatsApp
- Save 082 046 8553 to your phone contacts
- Open WhatsApp and send "Hi"
- Select the Status Check option from the menu
- Enter your ID number when prompted
- Your status will be returned in the chat
Check via USSD (No Internet Required)
Dial *120*3210# from any mobile network and follow the menu. If that does not work, try the legacy code *134*7737# — both return your current SRD status.
What Each Status Means
Approved Your SRD grant for this month has been authorised. Your payment date will be shown on the status page. See our SASSA payment dates page for the full monthly schedule.
Pending SASSA is still verifying your eligibility against income, SARS, UIF, and Home Affairs databases. This is normal in the first two weeks of the month — check again after the 15th.
Declined Your application did not meet the eligibility criteria for this specific month. A reason is shown on the status page. You have 90 days to appeal — see our guide on how to appeal a declined SRD grant and how to check your appeal status once submitted.
Identity Verification Requested / Referred Your application is paused pending identity verification. Check your phone for an SMS with a biometric verification link, or read our full guide on the SASSA ID verification request process. If your status shows "Identity Verification Failed" instead, see our guide on fixing that specific status.
Reapplication Required SASSA needs you to reconfirm your details. This is not a full new application — go to srd.sassa.gov.za and complete the reconfirmation as soon as possible to avoid missing a payment. If you need to apply from scratch, see our full SRD application guide.
How Much Will You Receive?
Every approved SRD applicant receives R370 in 2026. The amount is the same for everyone. See our SASSA social grant increases page for a comparison of how the SRD amount compares to other grant types, and what changes were made in the 2026/27 financial year.
When Will Your Payment Arrive?
SRD payments are not released on a single fixed date — each applicant is assigned an individual payment date within the monthly window based on when their verification clears. For confirmed dates and the full monthly schedule for all SASSA grants, see our SASSA payment dates page.
Your personal payment date appears on your status page at srd.sassa.gov.za once your application is approved for that cycle. If your status is "Approved" but no date is showing yet, check again after the 20th of the month.
Approved but Haven't Been Paid?
Being approved and not receiving payment is a common issue with a specific set of causes. See our dedicated guide on SRD approved but not yet paid which covers:
- Banking detail mismatches
- Recently changed bank accounts
- Retail collection PIN not arriving
- Payment delays and what to do if the payment window has passed
How to Confirm Your Payment Reflected
Bank deposit: Check your account via your banking app. SRD payments usually reflect within 1 to 2 business days of your assigned date.
Retail collection: You will receive an SMS on your registered number once your payment is ready. Present your SA ID at Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers, or USave and enter your OTP. To change how you collect, see our guide on changing your SRD payment method.
Protecting Your Grant While You Check
Be cautious about which websites you use to check your status. Scammers create fake SASSA-lookalike sites to steal ID numbers and banking details. Always use the official srd.sassa.gov.za portal — see our guide on SASSA SRD scams to watch out for and how to protect your SRD grant for the full list of red flags.
SASSA will never ask for your banking PIN, OTP, or any payment to unlock or speed up your grant. If anyone contacts you claiming to be SASSA and asks for these, it is a scam. Report it immediately to the SASSA fraud hotline on 0800 60 10 11.
Black Sash provides free assistance to beneficiaries who have been defrauded or are struggling to access their grants.
